Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare to conduct dewatering activities in surface operations
- Access, interpret and apply dewatering activities in surface operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Develop dewatering plan
- Select and check for faults all tools and equipment to carry out tasks consistent with the requirements of the job
- Prepare sumps and pads to work requirements
- Transport pump, lines, fittings, associated equipment and required tools to and from the site
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Install, operate and recover dewatering equipment
- Carry out operator maintenance

Performance Evidence
Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:
locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and proceduresimplements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient conducting of dewatering activities in surface operations including:applying operational safety requirementsaccessing, reading, interpreting and applying technical informationselecting dewatering methodsinterpreting ground conditionspumping equipment operating requirementsidentifying potential hazardsresponding to changing circumstancescomplying with environmental requirementsworking in confined spacesapplying equipment records maintenance requirementsinterpreting and applying work instructionsselecting and using the required tools and equipmentselecting and wearing appropriate personal protective equipmentbeing prepared for emergencyworks effectively with others to undertake and complete dewatering activities in surface operations that meet all of the required outcomes including:using a range of communication techniques to convey information to othersmaintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and proceduresdemonstrates completion of conducting dewatering activities ins urface operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:installing and dismantling dewatering equipmentcompleting pre-start, start-up and shutdown proceduresstarting, testing, monitoring and adjusting dewatering equipmentinspecting dewatering equipment and systemsmaintaining, servicing and lubricating equipmentcompleting the work plan
