Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient conducting of dewatering activities in surface operations including:

applying operational safety requirements

accessing, reading, interpreting and applying technical information

selecting dewatering methods

interpreting ground conditions

pumping equipment operating requirements

identifying potential hazards

responding to changing circumstances

complying with environmental requirements

working in confined spaces

applying equipment records maintenance requirements

interpreting and applying work instructions

selecting and using the required tools and equipment

selecting and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment

being prepared for emergency

works effectively with others to undertake and complete dewatering activities in surface operations that meet all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communication techniques to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of conducting dewatering activities ins urface operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

installing and dismantling dewatering equipment

completing pre-start, start-up and shutdown procedures

starting, testing, monitoring and adjusting dewatering equipment

inspecting dewatering equipment and systems

maintaining, servicing and lubricating equipment

completing the work plan


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting dewatering activities in surface operations through:

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

applying techniques for communicating with and coordinating activities with others

selecting appropriate dewatering methods

interpreting ground conditions

complying with environmental requirements

identifying and using site hazard and response procedures

identifying and using site risk control procedures

identifying and complying with site requirements and constraints

identifying site geological and survey data

identifying and applying dewatering equipment pre-start, start-up, operating and shutdown procedures and techniques

identifying dewatering equipment characteristics, technical capability and limitations

identifying and applying drainage principles and processes
